Is Digg Really NoFollow ?

In my previous post we talked about Digg recent changes to nofollow on all external links but is Digg really nofollow?

After taking a closer look Digg is still do follow or at least links from comments on old pages are. Here’s the proof:

digg nofollow

If we browse Digg old pages we will see that many of them are heavily spammed with viagra, drug rehab and pharmaceutical links.I took my time and sent a email to Digg support letting them know about this, look what they said:

digg dofollow

I thought that this is a auto generated email so i send them one more telling them that I am not very happy with their way to threat a user who tries to give them a little help. Here’s what they answer:
digg2

Digg obviously doesn’t want to give us more details about this update but i think they did a very lousy job when comes about spam.

Digg Added NoFollow on All External Links

We’ve added rel=”nofollow” to any external link that we’re not sure we can vouch for.

Is this bad news for SEO community ?

Of course that’s bad news. Many sites will lose some important backlinks since old stories links, links from comments were dofollow and many of that pages have a very high PageRank.
