Where did Google Wave go ?

Has the wave finally run its course?

Google Wave was launched last year to great applause with many claiming that it would eventually replace email. The buzz seems to have been short lived as latest statistics show the service is in decline.
It seems Google Buzz is experiencing a similar fate as Search Engine Land’s recent article ‘Is Google Buzz Dead?’ reported. The inspiration for this post came from that and I wanted to see just how well the last big product launch from Google performed.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Google Wave it is an online and real time communication tool. It allows users to share text, videos, images, maps, photos and much more in one central location it’s a bit like a hybrid between email and instant messaging.
Data from Google Insights and Quantcast (American users) show that since the turn of the year show search volumes and usage volumes have dropped. The graph below is from Google’s own tool Google Insights.

The graph below is taken from Quantcast.

It is by no means conclusive but the graphs make for some interesting reading. I was personally excited when the service was first launched however I never really got to grips with it. Like many i could not find reasons to move many of my online activities to it.
Google Buzz was launched in early February and is designed to be a stepping stone to Google Wave. It will be interesting to see whether it helps launch Google Wave on a massive scale.

What do you think of Google Wave?

Top Affiliate Marketing Strategies for Your Success!

Affiliate marketing is a profitable Internet venture, and if you know how to go about it, you can be even more successful than you had hoped for in your online business! If you have an existing blog or website, a simple way to enhance it is through using an affiliate program to make an increased income through customer sales on your website.

Here are the top affiliate tips for your success:

  1. Sell the right products. If you don’t know exactly what to sell, it is best to start with something that you are familiar with or passionate about, since you will have to promote it. This will help you to determine your target demographic, which may help you find an in demand niche market to boost even more affiliate sales on your website.
  2. Write credible content. Since affiliate marketing has become so popular, that also leaves room for spammers, which soil the reputation of affiliate marketers. If your readers know that you are simply putting out filler content to promote a product to get their money, they are not going to trust you. The best thing that you can do for your online affiliate business is to cultivate repeat customers by providing trustworthy, relevant, and in demand content and products.
  3. Be honest. Another way to help your customer base trust in your website is to disclose your affiliates. This will create honesty for all of your readers, and they will be more likely to click on your affiliate products as a result. If you are completely transparent, you have the opportunity to cultivate loyal readers, drive more traffic to your website, and increase your sales overall.
  4. Check out different affiliate programs. If you are using a single program that isn’t working for you, there is nothing wrong with trying another affiliate program. Each program package may be slightly different with various options in services, products, and payment structures, while one or another may work better for your specific website.
  5. Keep learning. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to be committed to continued education as an affiliate marketer. It is so important to keep learning more and more about your affiliate market strategies for your ultimate success!

These top tips will make a serious difference in your affiliate marketing sales, and they will also give you the opportunity to make even more money online through your existing website!

Make Website Templates Work For You

To build a successful home internet business you need to have a good website – one that will quickly attract attention.  Maybe the idea of designing a website seems overwhelming to you.  You may have a running list of questions in your mind.

How can I make a website?  Where do I start?  What information should I have on my site?  How should it look?

These questions are more easily addressed than you may think.  Even the cheapest website hosting package comes with easy-to-use tools to help you build an effective website for your home Internet business.  Most people are already familiar with internet marketing tools such automatic responder software, but did you know that you can also get website templates from your provider?

Website templates simplify your startup process by saving you time and money, both of which you need when you are just starting to build your business.  And while a template may not be a permanent solution for you, they give you an immediate web presence, allowing you to get your business up and running quickly.

A template is like a shell of your website, a ready-made outline which you can fill out with the information that you want.  Templates come with the standard pages – About pages, Contact forms, and Services provided – already in place.  All that you have to do is plug in your information and you are ready to go.

Once you get your initial information in place, you are then ready to start thinking about your website’s layout.  How do you want your information to be displayed?  You can easily customize almost any feature of a template, from changing its background colors and column width to changing its font style and appearance.  Making a few simple changes like these can considerably affect the look of your site.

Templates are usually organized according to particular business categories and often come with industry standard images and features. What is great about templates is that most of these standardized components can be customized to suit your particular business needs.  Want to add your own image?  No problem.  Need to add an extra dropdown menu?  That’s okay too.  Any of these you can do fairly easily.  You can even add specialized links to blogs, forums, and social networking sites.  Your website provider should give you easy-to-read instructions on how to adapt your templates to meet your needs.

Over time, you may start to notice the limitations of a website template.  The most obvious is that templates tend to give websites a cookie-cutter look, making it difficult for many visitors to visibly distinguish the difference between your business and others like it.  Standard template customization can only take you so far.

Eventually, you will become more comfortable working with your website. The questions like how can I make a website? will not worry you anymore. You will be now rather preoccupied with further expansion of your website, adding even more customizations.  For this, you will need to start learning a little more about your website’s inner language.  You have probably heard of html, but do you know what that means?

Basic html is actually pretty simple.  First of all, it means Hypertext Markup Language – but don’t let that scare you. That is only a little bit of professional web jargon.  All basic html does is tell your website how to display text and images using codes.  Once you get in and see how to put these codes around your text and images to get them to look how you want them to, you will see that it is not at all hard to do.

For example, you can use html to italicize, bold, or change the font of specific text on your site.  You can find simple instructions online that will guide you into your website source code and show you just how to do this.   Soon, you’ll be embedding YouTube videos and uploading sound files into your website!

Integrating Your Social Media Activity With Your WordPress Website

If you have a WordPress website/blog that is already optimized to attract people and search engines with continually updated valuable content, you are ideally positioned to utilize this website as your home base for your social media activity.

Let’s look at just some of the possibilities:

  • You create a Facebook fan page to promote your brand, book or business.  Facebook gives you the code for putting a widget for your fan page on your website, which of course is easy to do with a WordPress website.  The widget allows people on your website to join your Facebook fan page.  (For an example of the widget, see millermosaicpowermarketing.com )
  • You have an email optin box on your WordPress website.  You simply copy the code and add this same optin box to your Facebook fan page thanks to the FBML application (you must add this application to your Facebook fan page).  Now people can join your email optin list directly from your Facebook fan page.  (For an example of this on a Facebook fan page, see facebook.com/powermarketing )
  • You can get various nifty icons for Twitter, LinkedIn, your Facebook profile, etc. and make these icons hot links on your WordPress website.
  • You can use links to different pages on your WordPress website for your different social media profiles.  For example, for LinkedIn, which is a professional site, you might want to link from your LinkedIn profile to the ABOUT page on your website.  On Twitter you might link to a website page whose only content is the free optin offer.  You can choose a different link (or links) from your Facebook profile and from your Facebook fan page to your website.  And always you are sending people to a website that you control and that can’t be yanked from under you, for example, by a whimsical change in Facebook’s rules and regulations.
  • For any social media site on which you are active you can utilize the parts of your WordPress website that “fit” with that site’s members.  And if you decide to add a site to, or drop a site from, your social media portfolio and thus your website, you can easily add or remove the site’s icon.
  • You can upload a product video to YouTube, embed the code on your WordPress website so that people can watch the video on your website, and use a third-party application to automatically bring the video into your Facebook fan page (YouTube Channel at Involver.com).

The web is constantly changing.  Shouldn’t you be able to easily change with it?

And by continually adding valuable content to your website/blog, you’ll have plenty of new URLs to tweet on Twitter and with which to update your status on Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media sites.  This way you’ll always be encouraging your fans, friends, followers, etc. to visit your WordPress home base to learn more about you and what you have on offer.
