When starting your link building campaign, there are several factors to be considered and also some effective steps to better link building. They are explained below:
1. Keyword Research: Let me enter your mind and hear you say this is not a link building strategy, Then read on…… Keyword research is the father of link building, so keyword research cannot be left untouched.In order to have an effective link building, you need to have a keyword you want to rank for, thereby using the keyword as an anchor text in the links you will be building. It wouldn’t be better optimizing for “blue” that gets no search every month, but it will be a good option to optimize for “red” that gets 1000 searches every month(not the real value, just examples). Proper keyword research can provide you with high traffic within a short period of time if you tailor your link building towards it. The following tools can be used for effective free keyword research: Google adwords keyword tool, KeywordIndex.com, Keyworddiscovery.com/search.html Now that you have gotten the right keywords, let us move to the next step
2. Anchor text: Effective anchor text is a prerequisite for any website that want high search engine rankings. It is also very important to always use variation of anchor texts and not just one because variation of anchor text makes your link building natural while usage of a single anchor text makes it look artificial. It is very important to always consider usage of anchor text as an important factor in link building. A good example of this is the phrase “click here”, this phrase brings up adobe’s website which has no “click here” written on it as number 1 in google, this is because so many people linked to the site using click here as an anchor text.
3. Relevancy: It is also important to consider the relevancy of the website linking to you i.e. a website related to affiliate marketing
linking to an affiliate marketing website will be more relevant than a restaurant website linking to that of a bank.
4. Authority: The authority(also known as quality) of the website linking to you is very important in SEO because so many people now create multiple websites, thereby pointing it to a single domain name in order to inflate their search engine rankings: search engines like google caught this and decided to control it thereby not respecting domain of low quality.
5. Consistency: So many people overlook this aspect of consistency.
Consistency in the form that there must not be a sudden increase or decrease in the number of links you build daily i.e. if you want to start with ten links a day, continue with 10 and if there will be a sudden change, let it be consistence. This issue of consistency affected my website: http://www.dataentryforall.net when i just started,i do get high number of daily visits from google, i later discovered there was no more visits to my site from google again,i later discovered what the problem was using sheer seo tool. I was able to discover that there was a sudden increase in the number of my links from about 42 to over 500(what a sudden change). So it is very important to be consistent in your link building efforts
6. Deep linking: So many webmasters do overlook the aspect of deeplinking in their link building efforts. Good news for those of you whose website has been banned by google, just deeplink to some other pages of your website using the right anchor then and you will begin to see almost instant results.
7. Social Media: It is a very good thing not to respect the aspect of social bookmarking, because this is one of the most easy and effective method of getting free links. It is important to know that not all social bookmarks get indexed but when you bookmark your website using sites like digg,reddit,stumbleupon,folkd,yahoo buzz, then you will begin to see amazing results.

“Relevancy” is probably the one I most often find people being surprised about. They’re like, “but, a link is a link, right?”.
Problem with SEO is that there’s no list of correct answers so we can’t just go and look up “if I do this, what exactly will happen and when”. I wish there were, though

The deep linking is simpler with commentluv plugins. All those links eventually become deep links.

I am surprised by the amount of people that still do use the ‘click here’ method for linking. Internal link is really important and its not hard to change ‘click here’ to ‘learn more about (Insert keyword)’ and link through the keyword.

Great tips for link building. It always take time to build quality links. Somewhat I am not agree with the 3rd point. Google doesn’t see relevancy at present. But in future Google may count relevancy of backlinks. S

Great ideas for link building. I run into lot of smarties all the time who say directory submission as a link building method don’t work anymore. To that I say Bull! If you know how to and where to submit, directory submission can be a very effective link building method.
This was a great primer for the beginner in SEO of which I am one.
I thought I’d just pay someone else to do it but the good ones charge a lot. So I thought I’d teach myself. You have outlined the basics very well and I thank you.

I think Consistency is also valuable not just for link building but also a regular schedule or frequency of posting I have found to be a crucial factor in dominating a market.
@Ielts too many backlinks overnight and then none for months. Yes it can hurt you. And links that are not themed from linking page, link and landing page are going to send the wrong signals and dilute your relevant links.

I believe the only drawback of using ASP.Net here is that it slightly slows down the processing unlike PHP. Just my personal observation.
