.edu and .gov backlinks don’t carry more weight than normal links

A long long time , SEOs had think that .edu or .gov backlinks have more vaulue than a normal backlink, but beggining with 2010 .edu and .gov backlinks are not more valuable than normal backlinks.

In this video, Matt Cutts explain us that .edu and .gov backlinks don’t carry more weight than normal links. Myth officially busted !

I hope that you’ve observed that Matt had said : “It’s not like an edu automatically carries more weight or a link from a gov automatically carries more”.

On my blog I’ve also posted a list with 27 DoFollow .EDU and .GOV Backlinks Resources

Thank you for this news. It looks like link- building won’t be so stressful anymore as usually there was a strong pressure from clients on those links

I believe that this year onwards, SEO changed a lot. Google is giving less weight to backlinks and more weight to the quality of the content.

Well, a link is still a link so I think it is a good idea to try to get some of these links still. Not sure if he is telling the whole story, but why would he lie. Interesting. Big G is always changing and staying ahead of the game though, so I tend to listen.

This is a really interesting video. I’m going to forward to our link building strategist. I’m not sure if she has seen it as yet. That list of dofollow blogs was interesting as well. I’m going to start looking at them tonight :-)

I got so utterly bored with Matt’s ‘bleeding obvious’ SEO videos that I unsubscribed from the youtube channel. Then he lands this, thanks for picking up on it nice blogger. Better renew my subscription I guess :P

Imagine how much less competitive it will be to get and keep your client’s sites ranked well in the search engines when you convince most other people not to implement any of your strategies for themselves?

Before you accept ANYONE’S advice I strongly suggest you test it for yourself.
