Top 10 Domain Sales 2008 vs 2009

I thought that would be interesting to see which are the most expensive domains sold in 2008 and 2009 and if we can see any differences between last year and this year domain market.

I see some underpriced domains sold this year and the one who caught my eyes is Brazil.com. I am a big fan of geo domains because they are quite easy to develop and must be quite nice to own your virtual “country” or “city”.

I remember that Melbourne.com was sold back in 2007 for $700.000 and that’s why i say that Brazil is way underpriced but that’s just my opinion.

As you can see there are no important ccTLDs sales this year and the prices are slightly lower but the year is far from being ended so lets wait and see what will happen.

I agree with you. Brazil.com could have sold for a lot more than $500k. I can only dream of selling a domain name for that amount though.

Thanks for the update on the . As mentioned in the post I wasn’t too sure, so glad to see I have people listening who are happy to contribute.Stumble Top 10 Domain Sales.I guess this is something we domain and website owners espire to, just sitting back and letting people bid on your domains. Domain ownership seems to be the easiest job in the world, of course it’s hard to predict which names will be popular in the future and having the capital to buy them in the first place.and ya this is very nice to have see market on which we people stay afloat.

Love your site. I’ve gotten a lot of useful information here. But I have a question. I have an authority website that is in a popular niche and has around 300,000 people visiting monthly. It’s top notch and has been around for ten years. Although it makes good revenue, I know if I could get the news out to the right people, I could make enough to start another project that I need capital to start. How would you go about finding prospects for buying your site? Where and how do these domains that sell for millions go to get exposure? Thanks in advance for any replies

Hey @Tina,great to have you here!

I would start in well known domains forums like Namepros.com and DNForum.com,both are great communities with top domainers and site owners. In my opinion these domains don’t need exposure since their names talk for itself but for getting such a price even for a domain like this best thing is to find a good broker like RickLatona.com or use a third party service like Sedo.com
Wow 300k visits per month is quite impressive,no wonder that makes good revenue.

These sums of money are mind boggling. However your post has just opened my eyes to untapped business opportunities that i had not imagined before.
I come from an area that i think if I bought some popular geographical domains maybe a few years down the road they can sell for big molahs!
Your blog has very interesting postings and find myself reading most of your content especially those on SEO.

Thanks you for your feedback. I am on Sedo, but not getting many people even seeing my ad. I think I’m going to need a broker. I’m really excited about one of my upcoming projects that hasn’t been done before and I think it’s going to be huge. I would hate to lose the opportunity, but I do need capital to get it going. I’m going to try some of your suggestions, thanks again. Like I said before I absolutely love your site. Take care.

I also have a domain portfolio and dreaming someday I can sell one in a decent amout of money. Howver, developing a website even without a great keyworded name could also be challenging. Unknown words can also be turned to prominent words through providing quality and useful contents and SEO. This days, we cannot obtain valuable domains and hope to sell them in high price in the future. Developing them as websites can be a clearer path through profit success.

    All,

A little more information. The costliest domain that was ever sold in this world is business.com. Do you know the cost. Oh God, it is 360 million. Can you believe this.

Fund.com is the most expressive domain name so far, I don’t think any domain name has been sold more than that amount so far.
